Dear President Trump,
As we get ready for Super Tuesday, things may start to become clearer as to who will be the Democratic Party’s nominee. This 2020 for 2020 newsletter has been sent to some in the running. I pray they read it and read the previous newsletters on Healthcare, China, Leadership and Guiding Principles.
These two newsletters are on the Tech Industry, the Media, and how the two intersect and have had a profound effect on society as we know it in the U.S. and some guiding principles and some history and historic objectives of the Federal Communications Commission to help us as we strive to restore and preserve our culture and build a just society.
I have direct experience in the Tech Industry, working for a component manufacturer for hard drives in 2005 and 2006 and being asked to study the Consumer Electronics Industry at that time, and in 2013 I worked as a consultant to a component manufacturer and was asked to study the Independent Software Vendors for opportunities. Population Health, a lesser talked about component of Obama Care, scares me.
Healthcare and Tech and Financial Services are where the money is in the U.S. economy now and these industries have become highly concentrated and suffer in many cases from predatory or imbalanced business models that are problematic and in some cases unfair and unjust.
I don’t have the answers, and I don’t think anyone does. I do believe, however, if we adopt and adhere to just guiding principles, as presented in Catholic Social teachings for a just society, we will move in the right direction for all people and for society and for future generations.
Moral principles that serve as a basis for a just society include: The dignity of life- human beings are equal in dignity and created in the image of God, The common good-activities are to be done for the good of all and not just one party, Subsidiarity –activities are to take place at the lowest level possible without undue interference from higher levels. The elimination of unnecessary layers and bureaucracy, and Solidarity-the notion that we all share and participate in what we are doing, not just now but from generation to generation and no one is exploited. These principles must all be adhered to together in order to have a just society.
I encourage you to share this newsletter with your fellow citizens, with tech leaders you may know and with the FCC and the FTC leaders. I also encourage you to pray and work and be a voice for justice in the tech sector. Our ability to be an informed society may depend upon it.
